Damaged Garage Door Safety Sensor
- Garage Door Reverses: If the garage door starts to close but then stops and reverses, even though there are no obstructions in its path, it could indicate a problem with the safety sensors.
- Flashing Opener Lights: The lights on the garage door opener might blink or flash, which often signals that the safety sensors are blocked, misaligned, or defective.
- Sensor Lights: The small LED lights on the sensors themselves might be off, blinking, or flickering. This can indicate issues with the sensor alignment, power supply, or internal damage.
- Door Won’t Close: If the garage door moves downward only an inch or so before stopping, it could be due to a malfunctioning sensor.
- Continuous Operation: Conversely, if the door closes completely despite an obstruction in its path, the sensors might not be functioning correctly.
Broken Gear on Garage Door Opener Repair
- Grinding or Clicking Noises: If you hear unusual grinding or clicking sounds when the garage door opener is in operation, it could indicate that the gear sprocket is worn or damaged.
- Door Not Moving: The garage door opener might run, but the door itself doesn’t move. This can happen if the gear sprocket is broken or stripped.
- Slack Chain: A loose or slack chain on the garage door opener can be a sign of a damaged gear sprocket. You might also notice black powder around the sprocket area, which is a sign of wear.
- Travel Limits Issues: If the opener’s travel limits cannot be set or if the door starts and stops in the wrong positions, it could be due to a faulty gear sprocket.
- Door Reversing: Sometimes, the door might hit the floor and then come back up, indicating that the gear sprocket is not functioning correctly.
Damaged Belt On Garage Door Opener Repair
- Unusual Noises: If you hear loud grinding or squeaking noises when the garage door is opening or closing, it could indicate that the belt is worn or damaged.
- Door Stops Moving: The door might open an inch or two and then stop, which can be a sign of a damaged belt.
- Door Won’t Open: If the door won’t open at all and you hear a clicking sound instead, the belt might be broken or severely worn.
- Visible Damage: Inspect the belt for any visible signs of wear, such as fraying, cracking, or other damage.
- Juddering Movement: The garage door opener might judder or move unevenly, indicating that the belt is not functioning properly.
- Rubber Pieces: You might notice rubber pieces from the belt coming off, which is a clear sign of wear.
Garage Door Randomly Opening and Closing
- Unresponsive Remote or Keypad: If your remote or keypad isn’t working despite having fresh batteries, it could indicate a problem with the circuit board.
- Intermittent Operation: The garage door opener might work sporadically, opening or closing only partway, or reversing direction unexpectedly.
- No Power: The garage door opener might appear to have no power, even though it’s plugged in and the outlet is functioning correctly.
- Flashing Lights: The warning light on the opener might flash or shine constantly, signaling an issue with the circuit board.
- Non-Functioning Safety Sensors: The photo-eye sensors might not be getting power, causing the door to malfunction.
Garage Door Remotes Stopped Working
- No Response from the Remote: If pressing the remote button doesn’t activate the garage door, the batteries might be dead. Try replacing them with fresh ones.
- Intermittent Operation: If the remote works sporadically, it could be due to weak batteries or interference from other electronic devices.
- Reduced Range: If you need to be very close to the garage door for the remote to work, the antenna on the garage door opener might be damaged or obstructed.
- Unusual Noises: Strange noises from the garage door opener could indicate a more serious issue with the opener itself.
- Physical Damage: If the remote has been dropped or exposed to water, it might be physically damaged and need replacement.
- Lockout Feature Activated: Some garage door openers have a lockout feature that disables the remote. Check if this feature is turned on.
Garage Door Opener Has No Power
- Power Surge Damage: Lightning can cause a power surge that damages the electrical circuits within the garage door opener. This can result in the opener not responding at all.
- Damaged Logic Board: The logic board, which controls the opener’s functions, can be fried by a lightning strike. This can cause erratic behavior or complete failure.
- Blown Fuses or Tripped Breakers: Check the fuses and circuit breakers connected to your garage door opener. A power surge can cause them to blow or trip.
- Remote and Keypad Issues: The circuits that detect remote signals can be damaged, causing the remote or keypad to stop working.
Testimonials
Called Access Garage for a broken spring on my garage door. They had a tech (Evan) in the area who showed up within a couple hours. Evan was able to replace the springs and rollers within the hour. Certainly was not expecting service that fast and great, thank you.

Access Door installed my garage door 17 years ago. I’m embarrassed to say I backed into it. They replaced the panels and lubed up the joints. It’s like a new door! Prices are very reasonable. They’re on time for appointments. They’re easy to work with and know how to fix it right. I highly recommend this family owned business.

Absolutely stellar service! Richard returned my call amazingly quickly, and came to replace our busted springs same day within about 2 hours of calling! He even fixed some wiring issues on our motor from the previous owner of the house, and some other small miscellaneous items while he was here, all at no extra cost. We will definitely be calling them with any garage related issues!
